With current trends of population growth in West Africa, increased demand for food is a primary challenge. When one takes into account the effects of climate change on food production, such as higher temperatures, shifting seasons, more frequent and extreme weather events including flooding and drought (Jalloh, Nelson, Thomas, Zougmoré, & RoyMacauley, 2013), that challenge grows even more daunting.
